It was 3D’s pleasure to speak at the April Seminar of the NAHI- Florida group on April 15-16 in Venice, FL.   The first day, attendees were treated to a day-long tour of the PGT Window and Door Manufacturing plant, located nearby.

They specialize in making aluminum and vinyl products, including the fabrication of laminated glass for hurricane rated windows.  We also received training in glass basics, were shown the different window products and instructed in code compliance for the Florida market.  PGT even supplied a tasty lunch.  Everyone agreed we each learned a lot that we can apply to future inspections.

The second day was more typical of a regular meeting, with speakers addressing the requirements of 4 point and wind mitigation inspections, and representatives speaking from several industries, including Knauf Insulation, Culligan Water Treatment, Allinspections, and 3D Inspection Systems.   You may also download some free 4-point and wind mitigation forms to use in 3D software from our Bonus Downloads page

3D Inspection Systems had a selection of various Windows Phone 7 models on hand, so attendees could play with the Phone3D interface on them.  Those not yet familiar with using capacitive style screens common to newer electronic gadgets may have had a little difficulty getting used to them in just a few minutes.  Since capacitive screens are not pressure sensitive, but rather uses a finger's disruption of the electrostatic field to control the device, we find a lighter touch usually works much better than the heavier touch previously needed for older generation devices.  Once you get past a week or so of switching to a lighter touch though, it becomes second nature.

Attendees seemed to enjoy 3D Inspection System's demonstration of using the Category feature.  Read more about the option here in our regular User Community Tips article: http://www.3dinspection.com/Tips-and-Tricks/print-inspection-findings-in-a-different-order-or-report-category-than-collected.html

Bonus: A couple interesting trivia items we learned at the NAHI seminar-

  • Did you know that a single glass beer bottle can be stretched into a strand of fiberglass insulation that is 3500 miles long?  True
  • Did you know that Fiberglass melts at 1100 F; mineral wood melts at 1800 F
