Many inspectors have been concerned about the future of mobile computing, particularly with the plethora of new smart phones and devices running varied operating systems recently appearing on the market. Many desire to update or replace older phone or Pocket PC mobile equipment soon, but wonder which particular new devices will be most suitable to run 3D Inspection System software.

At this time 3D Inspection Systems is pleased to announce that they are developing an entirely new mobile application for the brand new Windows® Phone 7 series mobile devices. So if you are in the market for a new PDA or phone soon, you'll definitely want to check out Windows® Phone 7.

What is Windows® Phone 7? Is it like Windows® Mobile?
Microsoft® originally announced a completely new phone platform, Windows® Phone 7 (WP7), at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 15, 2010, and finally released the final SDK to developers on September 1, 2010. Although often considered a successor to Windows® Mobile, because WP7 is an entirely new platform with an entirely redesigned interface and operating system, it is actually quite different and not compatible with prior Windows® Mobile applications (now re-branded Windows® Phone 6.5).

Even the Metro-styled interface is fresh and new, designed for simplicity and clarity. Windows® Phone 7 moves away from the stylus to newer capacitive touch screens, and will use some multi-touch technology abilities. In addition, by implementing stricter control over the hardware WP7 runs on and mandating minimum requirements, Microsoft® is ensuring application compatibility with all devices in the family. This doesn't mean that different manufacturers can't include features to set their devices apart or specialize for certain needs, but it certainly makes for a smooth end user experience.

You may find these recent third-party reviews about Windows® Phone 7 and the first new devices enlightening:

Synchronization Simplified- "It Just Works"
No more special installation files and instructions for your programs. No more ActiveSync®. No more Windows® Mobile Device center. No more figuring out where your device synchronization folder is located in order to transfer files back and forth from your computer, or even having to cradle your PDA to do so.

Instead, Windows® Phone Marketplace is the service Microsoft® is using to allow WP7 users to browse and download applications that are developed by third-parties. Microsoft® also now requires certification of any and all apps provided for WP7 before making them available. Transfer of content to and from your WP7 is handled automatically through Windows® Phone Marketplace, Zune® Desktop, or "in the cloud", making it virtually foolproof for end users.

What does this mean for the 3D mobile app?
Naturally, the entire new operating system means that 3D Inspection Systems is developing an entirely new mobile Phone3D™ app. New WP7 abilities mean that features that never would be possible in Windows® Mobile can now be achieved. Unlike Pocket3D™ for Windows®  Mobile, you'll see your report comments immediately build before your eyes similar to the regular desktop report writer. Flick report sections up or down using touch access. Take pictures directly with the camera into the report area where you want them.

Windows® Phone Marketplace will make installation and setup a snap. Since synchronization now only occurs "in the cloud", 3D Inspection System will be providing new Cloud3Dâ„  Services for transfer of inspection reports to and from your phone. With no more inspectors struggling to setup their Pocket PCs to transfer files, we believe that Microsoft® has finally gotten this one right. "It just works."

We're certain you'll enjoy the benefits the new approach has on our upcoming 3D Inspection Systems Phone3D™ mobile application for WP7. More news and details about Phone3D™ and Cloud3Dâ„  Services to be released later.
