My Garmin IQUE M3 pda which I used for pocket pc and was very fond of just crashed and burned and to my dismay Garmin discontinued their pda line. I also noticed Dell Axim has no new pda's and HP has very few left. All the stores only seem to have Palm which is not windows mobile. I'm looking for a pda with a hard record button (I find recordings invaluable) that will work with pocket 3D. HELP!

I suggest you check the listing of current models and manufacturers in the Browse and Buy section on Microsoft's Windows Mobile website: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx (https://mail.3dinspection.com/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx)

However, it seems these days more manufacturers are making Pocket PC Phone Editions that combine phone features with the Pocket PC (verify specs to make sure they run "Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition" and not for Smartphone- see http://www.3dinspection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108). So you may also want to search the phone enabled section on Microsoft's website, as that expands the number of units available.

Has anyone checked into the various Pharos units? Or had any experiences with them?

The Pharos units are bundled with GPS, but from various online reviews, I gather that the Garmin units GPS software was a bit better. Apparently Circuit City and CompUSA carry the Pharos lineup, and they are now among the least expensive units. If anyone is using one of these units, please let us know what you think of them.

If you're specifically looking for a GPS software bundled unit, you also might check out Asus devices.

As for Palm units, you can use Palm units fine with Pocket3D as long as they are the newer ones that run Windows Mobile, such as the Treo 700 series devices.

Brick and morter stores may have a limited or old selection. But by searching the internet, one can also find and purchase Pocket PCs made by HP iPAQ, Palm Treo (700 series), Pharos,
Asus, Qtek, Socket Communications SoMo, HTC, Dopod, Fijitsu Siemens LOOX, and numerious other units branded as T-Mobile, Acer, Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, i-mate, etc.

Microsoft's Windows Mobile site also lists of all the very latest made units. See links and info in this topic: http://www.3dinspection.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108

I hope that helps!
