Small Activities - Big Results

Small, as in pinning up your business card at the local corner store. I generally get about 3 home inspections a year from the various corner store bulletin boards where I've placed some cards. Earlier this week a call came in from one of these cards, it wasnt someone looking for a home inspection, but rather, a member of a local business club that was looking for new members in the area.

Most of you should be familiar with business networking clubs such as BNI (business networking international) and the like. You should also be a member of at least one of these in your local area. The smaller ones are usually by invitation only with one of every flavor of business such as home inspection, represented.

So here's my invitation, only problem is that you have to show up at 7:00am every Wednesday. Ok, I'll force myself out of bed early today just to see what this group is about.

Again, it's the small things like SHOWING UP that count. Just so happens I sat next to a banker who is about to buy a six-plex. After chatting a bit about Methamphetamine residue and due diligence for landlords he asks for a price on both the building inspection and the Meth inspection. And of course my card.

Just by showing up, putting yourself into a place of opportunity, the nature of business takes care of its own. Some may call it coincidence, others, luck. But it all starts with just a little effort, a small activity that leads you to being in the right places at the right time. This however, only works, for those that show up.
