Biggest Home Inspection Marketing Mistake

I was Cruising the message boards the other day and came across an entry that stimulated quite a few posts. Not that I take issue with the responses, but… Ok, here’s the post.

“I was just giving some thought as to where I should put my marketting effort this year. As I see it, the top five methods of marketting are, in order:

(1) Real estate office presentations
(2) Yellow Pages ads
(3) Website
(4) Real estate office brochures
(5) Open House visits

Anyone agree or disagree?”

Once you get past the spelling errors you start wondering if you agree or disagree. But agreement will depend almost wholly upon your personal marketing style and past experiences within your market. This is exactly where all the responses except two, gravitated towards.

Your marketing style/beliefs will dictate where you have your success and breakthroughs. For instance; Office presentations may be the number one cost effective way to introduce yourself to the Realtor community, but if you simply “don’t believe” you have what it takes to do them, well… it ain’t gonna happen. You’d have to take that method off your list.

Each of the above methods, and many more, can be executed to produce outstanding results if given a “sustained educated” effort. But that sustained educated effort won’t happen unless there’s an emotional, invested belief that it will work. That’s why it’s so important to understand how you “feel” about a proposed marketing channel. The biggest mistake, not listening to your gut reactions in picking your top three marketing channels.

Myself, I use direct mail, newsletters and networking as the basis of my marketing model. Not that I don’t have the rest of the list in place to a degree, I do, but you need to do at least 3 things exceptionally well. And those three things almost always line up with your personal marketing style/beliefs. So that’s where you start, with three methods or channels that you believe will work for you if given a sustained educated effort.

Reading and stretching your mind into other avenues lays the groundwork for new beliefs and experiences, which may eventually become your basic marketing model. But take care, spreading yourself out without a persistent and consistent basic marketing model that fits your style can make for lack luster results.
