Pocket 3D

Product Information

Imagine being on a rooftop and observing various cracked roof tiles. You take your Pocket PC from it's holster, and with one tap of your pen stylus on your Pocket PC, you quickly jump to the "Roof" section of your report. You tap on the subheading labeled "Roof Covering Status:" from the drop down list. Then you tap on the word "Cracked". Pocket 3D then automatically enters the text, "Cracked roof tiles noted, recommend further evaluation by a roofing contractor." With one tap of your pen stylus, you just filled in an entire comment. That's the power of Pocket 3D!

Pocket 3D is software that you install on a Pocket PC computer, which allows you to collect all of your inspection data in places that no one would dare to take a laptop...

And as you would expect from a product bearing our name, you are not stuck with one or two different kinds of report forms. You can build and compile forms that suit your needs to use on your Pocket PC computer. (Pocket PC computer sold separately).

After you install the Pocket 3D software on your Pocket PC, simply synchronize it with your laptop or desktop PC to automatically transfer your custom forms onto the device. On your Pocket PC, you will have immediate availability to any and all inspection forms that reside on your laptop or desktop PC, whether they are residential, commercial, or pest inspection forms.

Each form on your Pocket PC will include all of your custom statements that are unique to each form! By the way, that's another feature that is unique to the 3D software... Your comment library is specific to each form, so that you don't have to wade through 11,000 statements about things that you aren't inspecting at the moment! You only see the comments that are related to what you are inspecting. Now That's Power!

Many inspectors want to know what type of Pocket PC we recommend to use in conjunction with Pocket 3D, and how much memory is required on the Pocket PC...

The two brands that we recommend are the HP Ipaq and the Dell Axim. Currently, the Dell Axim handhelds start at $269, and the HP Ipaq models start at $299. We feel that both the Dell Axim and the HP Ipaq are great models, but the HP Ipaq offers Bluetooth wireless technology with their $299 model. We recommend a minimum of 32MB free memory on your Pocket PC, so each of these entry level models are more than adequate for use with Pocket 3D. If you are going to be using your Pocket PC for other purposes, such as an address book, or storing images, then we recommend that you purchase a model with more memory.

Pocket 3D runs on the latest Pocket PC units powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6. Please view our Pocket PC system requirements for Pocket 3D on the About Our Software page.

Bluetooth is a wonderful new technology that has become widely supported in the last few years, and allows you to do amazing things, like... Print to a printer in your vehicle from your Pocket PC, while you are still on the roof! Or, you can wirelessly synchronize your Pocket 3D report to your Bluetooth enabled laptop computer. The wireless range for Bluetooth varies from about 30 feet, to as much as 300 feet outdoors, depending on the power output of the device, and the sensitivity of the receiving Bluetooth device.

If you really want to take advantage of the Bluetooth capabilities of your Pocket PC, you will also need to have a laptop with Bluetooth wireless capabilities, or purchase an aftermarket Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the USB port on your laptop. You can even purchase printers with Bluetooth wireless built in, so you can print without the need for your laptop.

If the Pocket PC you purchase doesn't come with a docking cradle, you may wish to purchase one. You simply attach the docking cradle to the USB port on your laptop or desktop PC, and place your Pocket PC into the docking cradle when you are finished with your report. Then, Microsoft ActiveSync, which comes with the Pocket PC, automatically transfers the report to your laptop or desktop PC, while the cradle simultaneously charges your handheld.

Typical battery life for Pocket PC's varies from 5 to 12 hours, depending on use. The more you use features such as the built-in backlight, the shorter the battery will last. So, we recommend an auto adapter to keep the battery fresh between inspections, or a spare battery pack.

Of course, you will need to make the choice as to which model of Pocket PC you like best, by checking out the respective web sites. If you want to see what other inspectors like to use, check out our hardware discussion forum.
