Pocket 3D
Imagine inspecting a rooftop and observing various cracked roof tiles.
You take your Pocket PC from its holster, and with a single tap of
your pen stylus on your Pocket PC, you jump to "Roof" and
then tap "Roof Covering Status:" With the convenience of
a checksheet, abbreviations for your most frequently used comment are
displayed for efficient selection. You tap the word "Cracked" and
your full comment text "Cracked roof tiles noted, recommend further
evaluation by a roofing contractor." is automatically included
in the report. With a single tap of your stylus, you just filled in
an entire comment. That's the power of Pocket3D!
Pocket3D is software
that installs on a Pocket PC type handheld computer (Pocket PC computer
sold separately) for collecting all your inspection data easily in
places no one would dare take a laptop...
As expected from any product
bearing our name, you are not stuck with one or two different kinds
of report forms. You can build and compile forms to suit various needs
for use on a Pocket PC computer, whether residential, commercial, pest
inspection, or other forms.
Each form on your Pocket PC will include
all of your custom statements that are unique to that area! By the
way, that's another great feature of 3D software... Your comment library
is specific to the item being inspected, so you don't have to wade
through 11,000 statements about things that you aren't inspecting at
the moment! You only see comments related to what you are inspecting.
Now That's Efficiency!
While inspecting, simply bookmark any areas
where photos belong as you take pictures with your camera. The timestamp
synchronization ability of bookmarks will allow you to automatically
match up related photos later.
Microsoft ActiveSync automatically synchronizes
new forms you’ve compiled for Pocket3D to your Pocket PC and
completed reports back to your main laptop or desktop PC. Open your
Pocket inspection in your regular PC, add any final touches and then
email or upload your inspection. Since you already collected your inspection
information while on site, there’s no need to spend hours creating
reports later.
Many inspectors want to know what type of Pocket PC
we recommend, and how much memory is required...
The two recommended
brands are the HP
Ipaq and the Dell
Axim. Currently, the HP Ipaq and Dell Axim Pocket PC's both start
at $299. Either unit is more than
adequate for use with Pocket3D. If you plan to use your Pocket PC for
other purposes, such as an address book, or storing images, then you
may want a model with 64 MB or more of memory.
Typical battery life for
Pocket PCs varies from 5-12 hours, depending on use. Frequent use of
features such as the built-in backlight will reduce battery life. So,
we recommend an auto adapter to refresh the battery between inspections,
or a spare battery pack.
Of course, you must choose which model of
Pocket PC you like best, by checking out the respective web sites,
reviews, or trying them out at local computer stores. Ask your fellow
inspectors what they like best about the models they use.

What type of PC do you need to run the 3D Inspection System?
1 GHz Pentium III or faster
Windows XP or Vista
512 MB RAM (1 GB or more RAM recommended)
You may be able to use the software even if your system does not meet
our minimum system requirements, however performance may be somewhat
less than expected. If you use an unsupported operating system, we
may be unable to assist should unexpected technical issues arise.
Does 3D sell computer hardware too?
3D Inspection Systems does not sell computer hardware, because of
the wide variety of choices currently available. There are literally
thousands of new computers that will run the 3D software, and we find
that most of our customers would rather purchase their own, instead
of having a limited selection of in-stock systems that work with our
software.
Can you show me a good example of a desktop PC for running
3D?
Sure. Dell Computer makes many systems that would be compatible, such
as the Dell
Dimension E520. If you configure the system with at least 1GB of
RAM, you will have a great system for running 3D.
How about a laptop?
The Dell
Inspiron 1501, configured with at least 1GB of RAM is a good
choice.
If you are looking for a more rugged laptop, many inspectors like
the Panasonic
ToughBook line of mobile computers.
Also, newer tablet PC's such as the Fujitsu
LifeBook and Stylistic are very popular
among inspectors.
Office Management
The Office Management component helps you manage the
business side of inspecting. Keep track of client, agent,
and site information, and even see your schedule for the week.
It even integrates with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and higher, as well
as QuickBooks Pro 2005 or above! Office
Management is also an order capture system as well, allowing you to
add the products and services you sell, so you can easily book
jobs and create invoices.
